These include understanding the emissions and discharges to air, land and water; the use of materials, including hazardous materials; the impact on the ecology and marine life; and disposal of the on-board systems and equipment and ultimately the submarine at the end of its life. To ensure full compliance we need to have a Product Environmental Management System in place, with the ultimate aim to provide a comprehensive body of evidence, an Environmental Case, to demonstrate that the environmental impacts and risks have been identified, addressed and mitigated.
