Product Environmental Engineering is all about understanding and being protective of the environment in the context of the product, in this case a submarine. For this we need to identify and address the environmental impacts from design right through to disposal. These include understanding the emissions and discharges to air, land and water; the use of materials, including hazardous materials; the impact on the ecology and marine life; and disposal of the on-board systems and equipment and ultimately the submarine at the end of its life. To ensure full compliance we need to have a Product Environmental Management System in place, with the ultimate aim to provide a comprehensive body of evidence, an Environmental Case, to demonstrate that the environmental impacts and risks have been identified, addressed and mitigated. And, all within the regulatory and legal framework. Working on the most advanced submarine programmes of their kind you will be responsible for coordinating and executing environmental engineering tasks relating to product design and development. You will be involved with the collection and gathering of information, data, reports etc. from System Design Engineers and suppliers; and coordination with the UK MoD and other stakeholders. As a Senior Engineer - Product Environmental your main responsibilities will involve: Providing advice and guidance on product environmental issues, and specifically emissions, discharges, wastes, product sustainability etc issues relative to a submarine Execution and coordination of appropriate activities to meet the Product Environmental Management Plan in accordance with the Product Environmental Management System Develop and implement appropriate environmental tools to determine and facilitate evidence production and generation Liaison with internal and external stakeholders on specific programme & environmental issues and support completion and tracking of information/evidence to meet requirements Review design documentation, gather and facilitate the collation of evidence to support the Product Environmental Case.
